As the years go by, I understand the beauty of quiet moments. The undocumented memories you treasure in the recesses of your heart and mind.
The walk with your youngest.
The time to sip and read.
The slowness of watching the birds on the feeder.
The strangeness of wondering what day it is.
When did we buy into sharing every moment with everyone? Have we forgotten how to treasure things in our hearts?
As for me, these are the questions I have been ruminating on.
My daughter and her husband often talk about being where your feet are. Practicing being present wherever we find ourselves is a difficult task, but it is the best way to be.
It was a quiet Christmas for my family. We didn’t decorate cookies, play games, or send a Christmas card. We did, however, drink in the moments we had together. My husband took the picture as we walked; we had no idea. It captured everything I felt at the moment–gratitude for being together.
Wisdom is taking advantage of being present with your people. Don’t count the hours or days. Be where your feet are. Treasure the quiet moments and memories.
Happy [almost] New Year!
Enjoy the subtleties of slow!
